Frequently Asked Questions

How do you communicate with parents?

Open communication with parents is a vital part of the therapeutic process. Alison meets with parents every 3 to 5 sessions without the child present. These parent-only meetings create a safe and confidential space for us to discuss progress, share insights, and address any concerns that may not be appropriate to talk about in front of the child. This structure helps ensure that we are working together as a team, supporting your child in the most effective and respectful way possible.

What types of issues do you work with?

Alison is a holistic therapist who approaches each child with curiosity rather than assumptions. While a child may be brought in for anxiety, Alison looks beyond the label, considering a wide range of contributing factors that may be influencing or even masking the behavior. It’s common for one concern to bring a child into therapy, only for other underlying issues to emerge as more central.

By working on a nervous system level, Alison helps children heal at the root—promoting deep integration and long-lasting change rather than surface-level symptom management. Her approach avoids placing children into narrow categories and instead honors their unique experiences and developmental needs.

With extensive experience supporting children and families from diverse backgrounds, Alison has worked with a wide range of emotional, behavioral, relational, and developmental challenges. This breadth allows her to meet families where they are—with insight, compassion, and flexibility.

How do therapy sessions work?

Therapy sessions are 45 minutes long and typically occur on a weekly basis. This frequency is important to maintain consistency and build momentum in the therapeutic process.

Because of the nature of play therapy—which includes time for cleanup and preparation for the next client—there is limited opportunity for in-depth communication with parents during drop-off or pick-up. This makes regularly scheduled parent consultations especially important to ensure collaboration and updates.

There is a waiting room available just outside the office for caregivers and siblings to use during the session. Alison carefully assesses each child’s comfort with separating from their parent and incorporates this into the treatment process as needed. Separation is never forced, and the child’s readiness is honored and supported.

You have no evening sessions available for my child—are there alternatives for scheduling?

We understand that many families prefer therapy appointments to take place outside of school hours. Because of this, after-school and evening sessions tend to fill quickly and may not always be available.

When this occurs, families often explore alternative options such as starting the day with therapy and bringing their child to school afterward, or ending the school day slightly early to attend a session. Many parents find that missing a small amount of school time is a worthwhile trade-off to avoid delaying support for their child.

It’s also worth noting that evening availability may open up over time as children complete their course of therapy. Most schools are understanding when it comes to mental health appointments, and Alison is happy to provide documentation or absence notes as needed.

How do I begin the process?

Alison welcomes open communication to ensure a good client fit from the start. There is no charge or time limit for initial inquiries. Feel free to reach out via phone at (267) 864-1674 or email alison@beawiseheart.com.

If you decide to move forward with therapy, the first step is a 45-minute intake session. This initial meeting allows you to:

  • Meet Alison

  • Visit the therapy space

  • Ask any additional questions

  • Share more detailed information about your child and your goals for therapy

This session lays the foundation for building a supportive and effective therapeutic relationship.

Fees and Insurance

At this time, Alison does not accept insurance. However, she is committed to making therapy as accessible as possible and offers a sliding scale fee based on individual financial circumstances.

Many families choose to seek reimbursement directly through their insurance provider. If you choose this route, Alison can provide a superbill, which is a detailed receipt you can submit to your insurance company for possible out-of-network reimbursement.

Session Fees:

  • Therapy Sessions: $150 per 45-minute session

  • Parent Consultations: $150 per session

Please don’t hesitate to reach out with questions about fees or reimbursement options—Alison is happy to support you in navigating the financial side of care.
